Mausoleums

5. Mausoleums

1.  The last row of the new cemetery (Section E) only is designated for mausoleums.

Mausoleum spaces are sold in order and not randomly.

     Corner markers are required.

The number of individual grave lots needed for one mausoleum:

 Companion  – side-by-side                4 ˝ lots    $1,575.00

$900.00 for mausoleum space;   $675.00 for endowed care

 Westminster    two high                   3 lots      — $1,050.00

$600.00 for mausoleum space;   $450.00 for endowed care

Costs are subject to change as cemetery prices increase.

No other burials by the owner are permitted around mausoleums, including cremation      burials.

Interments shall be made in hermetically sealed caskets

No other monuments or flat markers are permitted.

Veteran’s markers can be placed on the mausoleum by the monument company.

Trees, shrubs, etc. are governed by the cemetery rules in effect for all grave sites.

If there is a town code requiring a permit for construction of the mausoleum, this is     the responsibility of the owner.

2.  Spacing

A casket length is needed in back of mausoleum for interment, as most mausoleums       open from the back.   Some have the “roof” lifted off and a crane is needed.

Space between mausoleums needs to be wide enough to permit a large rider lawn     mower to pass between.

3.  Construction of mausoleum:

Mausoleums are in actuality a granite building.

The type of ground soil where mausoleum is to be placed determines the foundation          depth.

Foundation needed can be five to six feet deep depending on the soil.

Foundations need to extend 4 inches on all sides beyond the size of the mausoleum.

Perimeter bases or foundations are permitted upon approval, signature, and stamp by     an engineer licensed in New York State.

     Mausoleums need a granite base.

Weather conditions, ice, below zero temperatures influence the “level” of the  mausoleum.

Two-space-high mausoleums are heavier than two-side-by-side.  Both weigh many     tons.

The mausoleum company determines the mausoleum measurements which will      indicate the weight and the size of the foundation needed.

     The standard mausoleum measurements are:

Companion: two entombments – side by side  – 6'11" wide  x  8'10" long

Westminster: two entombments – one below, one above – 4'6" wide  x  8'10" long

The height of a mausoleum must not extend beyond six feet.

Six inch wall thickness is recommended over a four inch wall thickness.

Mausoleum specifications are to be submitted in writing to the Cemetery Council for     approval before any work commences.

All work, including the foundation, is to be provided by an approved mausoleum     company following all local building requirements.

Cemetery must be given a minimum of three business days notice prior to the        construction of the foundation, AND an additional three business days prior to the   delivery of the mausoleum.

4.  The following is placed in writing with the family who owns the mausoleum . . .

Special easement stating all the cemetery requirements.

Insurance by the family is needed.  This is normally part of home owner’s.

Possible damages include:  vandalism, snow, ice, sleet, rain, wind can cause weather damage.  Falling trees.  Vehicle hitting.  Cemetery upkeep machinery could cause damage.  Equipment needed at time of interment could cause damage.

Family responsible for the cost of and obtaining necessary work persons (from     company mausoleum is purchased) to open and re-seal the mausoleum for an         interment.

Family is solely responsible for maintaining the mausoleum.
